A descendant of the earliest people of the High Andes, Fernando Caceres has committed himself to the preservation of the oral tradition of his ancestors and to spreading the Andean culture.
Fernando is an indigenous artist from the Lake Titicaca in the Andean height of Puno, Peru. He has based his artistic productions on careful analysis of legends, myths, rituals and Andean sociology, transforming the people’s oral traditions into a contemporary visual work of art.
Since his presentation in Quito in 1998, where he exhibited and held conferences during the time of the Peace Treaty between Peru and Ecuador, he has been considered a leading Andean indigenous painter by the critics. Consequently the painting “The Seven Aymaras Harmonies” was given by the President of Peru, Alberto Fugimori, to the President of Ecuador, Jamil Mahuad, to commemorate the event.
Currently Fernando is living and working in London. He graduated from Courtauld Institute of Art in the conservation of easel paintings in July 2004. Since then he has been working on a number of projects including the writing and illustration of children’s books, artistic endeavours and conservation projects.
